Mobility cultures and the role of citizen initiatives #1
How do political measures and infrastructure restrict or enable certain mobility behaviours? What are the consequences for our perception of the mobility system in Luxembourg? In the context of the socio-ecological transition of urban mobility, what is the importance and role of citizen initiatives?
This participatory workshop invites you to explore together the cultures of mobility in Luxembourg and the role of citizen initiatives within them. Bringing together citizens and representatives of engaged initiatives, this space aims to be a place for exchange, reflection, and co-creation to imagine a more sustainable and inclusive mobility.
The workshop will begin with a short introduction to the concept of mobility cultures: its use in academic literature and how it manifests in our daily practices and in society.
The rest of the workshop will be structured in two parts:
- A group discussion around the dominant mobility cultures in Luxembourg: what practices are valued? What norms influence our travel choices?
- A collective mapping exercise aimed at identifying marginalised and/or vulnerable groups in the current mobility system, in order to make inequalities visible.
Finally, we will conclude with a creative visualisation workshop, during which participants will be invited to imagine and illustrate the desired mobility cultures.
Throughout the workshop, a central question will guide our discussions: What role do citizen initiatives play in the transition of mobility cultures?
